Veneers

There are two types of veneers available – composite and porcelain, your dentist will recommend the most appropriate veneer for you at your consultation.

Essentially, composite veneers are custom made using tooth-coloured translucent composite resin (white filling) that is built up directly on the front surface of the tooth. A porcelain veneer is a tooth coloured, custom made shell that is wafer thin and bonded to the front surface of a tooth. They’re an extremely effective solution for patients seeking to correct discoloured, chipped, fractured or crooked teeth.

The first step for either type of veneer requires us to prepare and/or reshape the tooth and match the colour of your teeth. With porcelain veneers we would now take an impression and send this off to a lab for the porcelain veneer to be made. For composite veneers we then carefully bond and sculpt the composite material. The composite is hardened using a special light then the veneer is smoothed and polished to give it a completely natural appearance. Porcelain veneers require a second visit for it to be bonded to the tooth.
